Apartment CK is a minimal apartment located in Lisbon, Portugal, designed by RAR.STUDIO. Located near the bustling Avenida da Liberdade, the apartment offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city. The building, dating back to the late 19th century, reflects a common architectural layout in Lisbon, characterized by narrow, elongated plots. These structures typically include multiple interior divisions, with a long corridor separating the rooms at the front and rear façades. To address the restrictive layout, the corridor was widened, creating a niche at the entrance and reshaping it into a continuous space.
This adjustment connects the front and back façades, incorporating the kitchen and allowing natural light to flow throughout. The kitchen’s design features a central stainless steel worktop, anchored by a structural pillar required for reinforcement. At the front of the apartment, the master bedroom and office overlook the street, while the center is dedicated to the bathrooms. The rear houses the kitchen and a second bedroom, both connected to the social areas inside and outside the home. A later extension of the building, constructed with a metal frame, introduced a large opening onto the terrace. This outdoor space was redesigned with a plant border, enhancing the connection between the interior and exterior.
