Butterfly House is a minimal home located in London, United Kingdom, designed by Will Gamble Architects. Designed for a couple of attorneys and their two young children, Butterfly House is the reconfiguration and renovation of a grade 2 listed terraced house in central London distinguished by a distinctive butterfly roof. The goal was to maximize the available space while designing a modern home that is respectful of the listed building’s original architecture. The original features were kept and honored, and they now coexist with more modern components to purposefully contrast old and new. Oak, microcement, stone, and other pure natural materials have been employed. The restrained material palette is maintained throughout the entire plan to create a unified design that honors the listed building’s architecture while offering a distinctive place to live in the twenty-first century.
