Cascais is a minimalist home located in Lisbon, Portugal, designed by Zoé Wolker. The clients, having recently emigrated to a new country, sought a home that would ease their transition and provide a sense of warmth, comfort, and safety. They placed complete trust in the designer’s vision, emphasizing their desire for a space that felt like home. Central to the design was a portrait of the composer Tchaikovsky, prominently displayed above the fireplace in the main living room. This piece became the focal point of the space, infusing the home with a musical ambiance that resonated deeply with the family, particularly as the children were growing up surrounded by Tchaikovsky’s works. The interior design avoided pure white colors, opting instead for roughly plastered walls, textured fabrics, and abundant use of wood. Portuguese-inspired accents in terracotta, nude, and sea tones added subtle bursts of color throughout the space. Attention to detail was paramount, with each element carefully chosen to reflect the owners’ tastes and the narrative of the home.
