Cloudy Outlines is a minimalist residence located in Stockholm, Sweden, designed by Note (design studio). This apartment’s original layout, having been stripped of its charm and efficiency, necessitated a complete reworking. Consequently, an all-encompassing design intervention was introduced, spearheaded by the architects’ determination to break down all barriers and reconstruct the space with a practical lens. The apartment’s initial floor plan was anything but efficient. A lengthy hallway devoid of natural light twisted into the main rooms, resulting in asymmetrical, challenging-to-outfit spaces. Despite the wealth of intricate detailing and craftsmanship characteristic of the building, there was an unfortunate scarcity of preserved interior features.
With this in mind, the studio took on the challenge to not just refurbish, but to rethink. The hallway was shifted to the facade side, shortened significantly, and repositioned to harness the daylight from the row of four windows. This strategic move maximized light influx, bathing the entire apartment in a welcoming glow. Stripped down to its bare bones, a fresh, holistic design emerged with a goal of everlasting appeal. The chosen palette comprised light, saturated hues for the walls, skillfully offset by the rich warmth of solid Douglas fir. The hardwood, utilized exclusively for the floors, window sills, doors, and bespoke joinery, brought an enveloping coziness to the newly carved spaces.
