Cottens is a minimal barn conversion located in Cottens, Switzerland, designed by Simon Durand. As a testament to the adaptability of historic structures, an architectural team has recently undertaken a remarkable transformation of a traditional barn into a contemporary living space for a family. Located within a protected farm, the project showcases the seamless blending of minimalist aesthetics with the rustic charm of the original building. The conversion process focused on preserving the integrity of the original barn while introducing modern elements to create a functional and comfortable living environment. The barn’s gabled roof was left completely exposed, revealing the aged wooden beams contrasted against new wooden structures adjacent.
