Deep Coffee Roasters is a minimal space located in Daegu, South Korea, designed by studiount. This latest establishment, situated in Beomeo, presents a unique fusion of specialty coffee techniques and commercial brewing methods, delivering espresso-based beverages with a focus on rich flavors and textures. The design of the Beomeo branch continues the aesthetic lineage of the previous DCR spaces, blending a natural and vintage mood. The interior takes into account the characteristics of the Suseong District, aiming for a tidy and comfortable environment that highlights the high quality of its products.
This is achieved through the use of raw materials like exposed concrete, hand-sanded metal, and various types of wood (plywood, decking) that lend authenticity to the space. The design features wall-mounted shelves, a modular ceiling, and storage units that wrap around the capa bar in a U-shape, all finished in wood. The capa bar, a key element of the space, is designed to showcase the coffee-making process. Positioned at the front, this square module serves as the main area, with a large machine table at its center. The layout includes a front bar, back bar, and desserts bar, all arranged to facilitate direct interaction with customers.
At the entrance, the building’s deep façade is utilized to install seven reinforced doors, allowing for the entire front to be opened and blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces. The guest specialty coffee bar offers a versatile experience. When staffed, it operates as a shop-in-shop, introducing customers to specialty coffee. In the absence of the team, it transforms into a home bar where DCR’s beans and drip bags are featured. This is facilitated by a movable rectangular trolley bar, adaptable for both functions. Additionally, the space includes a machine and grinder for customers to experience coffee-making first-hand, fostering a deeper engagement with coffee culture.
