Espacio B is a minimalist home located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, designed by Dodds Estudio. Once home to a publishing house, the building has been transformed into a multifunctional space designed for both living and working. The project emphasizes a seamless connection between interior and exterior areas, a significant improvement from the original layout that lacked natural light and proper ventilation. To open up the space, many walls between the warehouse and the courtyard were removed, blurring the boundary between the ground floor’s loft-style layout and the landscaped outdoor area. The service core was placed along a party wall, leaving the remaining space open for flexible use. One key feature, the original cargo elevator shaft, was repurposed to house a lightweight metal staircase, linking all three floors.

The upper floor contains private rooms that can serve as either bedrooms or closed-off workspaces, all connected by a double-height living area. A third level was added using a dry construction technique, leveraging the warehouse’s existing height. The roof’s truss was carefully modified to accommodate circulation, linking the new space with the staircase. For enhanced comfort, the metal roof was updated with two side skylights, providing natural light to the bathrooms and shared areas. Thermal and waterproof insulation were applied externally, preserving the original truss structure and the building’s exposed sheet metal ceiling—features that honor the site’s industrial heritage. The material selection reflects a balance of simplicity and warmth. Concrete, stainless steel, iron, and wood are paired with neutral tones and subtle textures, while color is used sparingly to accent details like the staircase, railings, and furniture.
