Garde Hvalsøe & Dinesen Aarhus is a minimalist showroom located in Aarhus, Denmark, designed by Djernes & Bell. The showroom, divided into two wings, showcases Garde Hvalsøe’s kitchens and furniture set against Dinesen plank floors. Bunn Studio revamped the left wing in 2022, and now Djernes & Bell has redesigned the right wing, honoring the building’s Gothic Renaissance roots and its historical surroundings in Nørre Stenbro. Constructed in 1898, the building retains key Victorian-era features like an ornamental glass ceiling and colorful windows. The redesign integrates these materials—glass, wood, and ceramics—common in the Victorian era. The showroom’s historical context in Mejlborg has informed its new design, with each room reflecting its original use. The redesign includes three main areas: a salon, a kitchen with a pantry, and a study room, each showcasing unique craftsmanship. The Salon, the first room in the right wing, features transparent curtains by Kvadrat and Stilling, and an asymmetric room divider made of Dinesen Douglas and finished with Ash Oil.

This space includes a handcrafted table and chairs from Magnus Olesen, and a tribute to Garde Hvalsøe’s Kabinet design, inspired by traditional Chinese cabinets. The Kitchen, designed by Djernes & Bell, features Garde Hvalsøe’s Hoelgaard model in elm wood, with Dinesen Ash Natural floors finished with Light Oil. It includes practical and aesthetic elements like visible plate holders and a round kitchen island topped with Sørensen Leather. The pantry, created in collaboration with the Danish restaurant Moment, features Dinesen Ash floors and walls finished with dark Clay Oil. Inspired by Louis Kahn’s Phillips Exeter Academy Library, the Study Room includes bespoke wooden workhouses with gables and Dinesen’s new Curated Widths collection in Oak Classic/Natural Mix with a Light Oil finish. It serves as an office space for both brands and features Douglas seating booths finished with Dinesen Clay Oil.
