Henri Martin is a minimal home located in Paris, France, designed by Atelier MKD. Atelier MKD has revamped an existing Parisian home located in the 16th arrondissement to give it a contemporary yet warm feel, while retaining its historical heritage. The inherited shell of the house lacked a modern relevance, but the designers ensured that the feeling of ‘home’ was felt in every aspect, including the use of textural layering and comfortable furnishings. The home’s generous volumes were celebrated and visual connections were maintained throughout with full-height drapery and a careful play of hierarchy created internally. The designers stripped back the existing alterations to reveal certain ornate elements, such as the curved archways, which were then incorporated into the new design. The result is a fusion of the past and present, with softening openings and innovative appliances and fixtures enhancing the home’s liveability while maintaining its historical character.
