Heyington Residence is a minimalist home located in Melbourne, Australia, designed by Studio 11:11 with styling by Jess Kneebone. Collaborating closely with landscape architect Jack Merlo and the client, the project evolved into a hands-on, collaborative effort, fostering a strong relationship among all parties. The team delved into the unique historical context of 1930s Melbourne, drawing inspiration from the Arts & Crafts movement’s critique of mass industrial production and its impact on construction quality—a sentiment still relevant today.

The home, previously renovated in the 1990s, had lost many original details. Studio 11:11 aimed to restore its original charm while incorporating modern functionalities to suit the client’s lifestyle. The preserved study’s intricate timber paneling guided the design of new joinery throughout the space. This was complemented by dramatic natural stone and polished plaster walls, embodying Arts & Crafts principles through skilled craftsmanship. Specialized carpenters, stonemasons, and cabinet-makers were enlisted to ensure a high level of care and quality, particularly evident in the kitchen, rumpus room, and office.
