Iena is a minimalist interior located in Paris, France, designed by Hugues de Blignières. The most telling detail in this Haussmannian apartment is not architectural but horological. Blignières trained his eye on watchmaking, and the discipline carries over into how he treats a room: every component accounted for, every junction resolved, nothing left to approximation. That sensibility turns a classic Parisian shell, with its plaster moldings, wrought-iron balconies, and parquet de Versailles, into something closer to a calibrated instrument than a decorated set of rooms. The comparison is not decorative shorthand. It explains why the renovation reads as restrained when it is in fact heavily worked, the effort folded inward until only the result remains visible.

The central gesture is a curved oak partition that slides through the main living space, its grain running vertically and its single recessed handle the only interruption on an otherwise unbroken face. This sinuous wall does the structural reasoning for the whole plan. It separates without closing, guiding movement around its arc the way the apartment’s original enfilade once did, but with a pliancy the building’s rectilinear bones never offered. Against that warmth, the living room operates almost entirely in cream and chalk. Curved bouclé seating follows the logic of the partition, and a low circular table anchors the room with a polished metal reservoir set into its surface, a small mirrored eye that catches the domed ceiling above it.

A shallow oculus ringed by concentric moldings, it crowns the salon and pulls the eye upward to a detail most renovations would flatten or ignore. Blignières instead lets it preside, then answers it on the floor with the circular table and the rounded forms of the furniture, so the room reads as a set of nested circles held inside the orthogonal Parisian envelope. A classical bust on a plain plinth supplies the only overt reference to the past, positioned where the contemporary furniture can register against it without deference.
