MC Residence is a minimalist house located in East Hampton, New York, designed by Carlyle Designs with styling by Colin King. This home, originally faded and traditional, was reimagined by Carlyle to strike a balance between its charming historical roots and a modern, comfortable living space. The renovation aimed to preserve the essence of the original architecture while infusing contemporary elements to create a stylish yet cozy abode. A highlight for Carlyle is the family room, where the morning light and garden views provide a perfect backdrop for starting his day. This space exemplifies the home’s inviting atmosphere. The renovation journey was marked by the challenge of maintaining the home’s historical charm while integrating modern features.

A notable solution was the retention of original elements like the 18th-century front door and pine wood floors, complemented by new additions such as Bar Gris limestone flooring and reclaimed wood beams. The farmhouse is adorned with an eclectic mix of furnishings and artworks, blending vintage and contemporary styles. Standout pieces include a Fritz Hansen slipper chair, a 1950s Danish sofa, and a custom-designed bed in the primary suite. Additionally, the house features unique elements like a limestone bar, a custom dining table, a La Cornue stove, and various artworks and custom pieces enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Architecturally, the house reflects a Georgian Colonial style and was built 21 years ago, drawing inspiration from East Hampton Town Hall. Its 2019 renovation by Carlyle involved significant structural changes, including removing trims and re-plastering, yet carefully preserving key historical elements like the wide pine wood flooring. The outcome of this extensive renovation is a harmonious blend of historical and modern design, creating a peaceful retreat from urban life. The home retains its original charm while embracing contemporary design elements and luxurious furnishings.
