Mirror-Flat is a minimal home located in Bordeaux, France, designed by A6A. The proposed intervention aims to preserve the original qualities of this type of dwelling from the late 18th century, including the goldsmith’s work on the fireplace ornaments, the parquet floors, and the partitions. The plan involves transforming the old kitchen into a bedroom, which requires the removal of one of the original partitions. To maintain the continuity of the space and avoid imitating period styles, the new partition is created using five mirrored elements that stretch the space through the double reflection in the mirror above the fireplace. These panels, which can be fixed or opened, provide access to the new kitchen and bedroom, and one of the old hidden doors is retained to close off the smallest room of the apartment. The oak parquet floor is restored and extends to the mirrored facade, creating a play of reflections from the herringbone pattern. On the other side, a darker, more abstract floor distinguishes the sleeping area and service rooms, where granite is used in the wet areas as an enclosing element.
