Monochrome Midas is a minimalist home located in Singapore, designed by Studio Metanoia. The home’s design is a testament to the homeowners’ monochromatic fashion sense, blending luxurious minimalism with practical elegance. The design journey involved a deep dive into the personal styles and intimate details of the residents, resulting in a living space that is a sophisticated and harmonious reflection of their personalities. The clients, connoisseurs of monochromatic and understated luxury, emphasized the need for natural light and spatial openness in their brief. Observations from their previous apartment revealed a strong commitment to the monochromatic aesthetic, which they desired to refine further in their new residence, along with the addition of thoughtful elements like a sizeable dresser and ample storage space.
The design proposition aimed to mirror the clients’ personal styles and the duality of their preferences, akin to the balance of yin and yang. This included showcasing the clients’ monochromatic travel photographs, creating a deeper personal connection to the space. Drawing inspiration from French interior designers, the team sought to infuse high-end elegance into a liveable and welcoming residential setting. Brushed gold accents were subtly incorporated to enhance the sense of luxury without overwhelming the space. Significant changes were made to the original layout to optimize natural light and storage. The yard’s toilet was replaced with functional countertops and cabinets, and a steel-framed glass door now separates the yard from the kitchen.
Two bedrooms were merged into a private space, featuring distinct areas for rest and a spacious walk-in closet with an attached bath. Custom steel-framed glass sliding doors and a concealed door were introduced for seamless transition and minimal disruption. For materials, the existing wood flooring in the bedrooms was stained black to contrast with the light marble flooring in the living area, emphasizing the transition between spaces. Brushed gold stainless steel elements added a touch of opulence, particularly in the dresser table legs and kitchen shelving. The interplay of hard structural lines and soft furnishings adds depth and dimension, creating an inviting visual experience.
