Musc is a minimalist apartment located in Paris, France, designed by Pareil. Situated on one of the upper floors, originally designated for the lower echelons of society, the apartment was characterized by a fragmented layout, low ceilings, and a stark lack of natural light. However, a thoughtful transformation was in store. The challenge at hand was to reimagine this historical abode, catering to the clients’ modern needs while harnessing the power of natural light. To tackle this, the architects embarked on a comprehensive renovation project. The daytime area, facing the bustling street, underwent a remarkable transformation. It now stands as a unified and open space, thoughtfully furnished with bespoke pieces that offer versatility.
This room can effortlessly morph into an entrance, kitchen, living room, dining area, office, or a quiet reading nook. A generously proportioned hallway serves as the transition point between the day and night zones. Here, wooden and opaque-glass doors subtly filter the natural light from the living area into the passage leading to the two bedrooms. On the night side of the apartment, each bedroom enjoys its own en-suite bathroom, closet, and dedicated workspace. Throughout the renovation, a delicate balance was struck between modern design elements and the preservation of historical features. Natural tones and medium-dark tinted wood were introduced to amplify the play of light while paying homage to the apartment’s heritage.
