Outlook House is a minimal residence located in Los Angeles, California, designed by Edward Ogosta Architecture. The architects began with a tired, awkward 1970’s hillside house with remarkable views yet badly in need of a remodel. Through the careful removal of walls, opening up of windows and skylights, and re-orienting of room layouts, we were able to flip the inward emphasis of the existing house toward an immersive experience of looking outwards to landscape and sky. Lightness and transparency guided the design treatment: abundant natural light permeates the interior, white oak slats add a sense of layering between spaces, the fireplace suspends delicately from the ceiling, and the material palette is restrained and natural. Together these interventions yield a house reinvigorated with warmth and consistency.
