Patio House is a minimal home located in Lisbon, Portugal, designed by Aires Mateus. The project, available on Fantastic Frank, is an exquisite example of contemporary architecture having transformed part of a traditional Lisbon building set in the heart of the city near Praça das Flores. This architectural project was carefully carried out by Aires Mateus, an acclaimed forerunner of contemporary Portuguese design. The old arches and stone floors have been maintained whilst expansive glass elements have been added to create a welcoming modern, minimalist home. The unique layout provides incredible flexibility with regard to the use of space. Although technically considered a two-bedroom, the property has one transformable living room/bedroom, two further living spaces, and a dining room set around the striking interior courtyard that allows natural light to flow throughout the house whilst its beautiful trees add a touch of indoor-outdoor living with incredible privacy. An additional, independent atelier sits alongside the main part of the house and is currently used as an artist’s studio. It can be accessed directly from the street or from within the property itself and could therefore be used as a further bedroom or study.
