Prospect Park West is a minimalist home located in Brooklyn, New York, designed by Vellum Studio. Home to a senior executive working in the creative industry, this Brooklyn pied-à-terre provides a tranquil escape from the hectic city life that surrounds it through carefully considered furnishings, decor, and material choices.
Drawing inspiration from the natural color palette of Prospect Park — located just outside the residence — designer and founder of Vellum Studio, Ronit Lee, created a grounding space characterized by rich textures and a neutral, tastefully understated color palette. Stand-out furnishings made of natural materials abound the home, such as a gouged wood cupboard by Jean Michel Frank in the apartment’s entryway, and a marble table by Angelo Mangiarotti which grounds the dining area. These modern design pieces are complemented by contemporary furnishings and decor, from the Pierre Yovanovitch Mr and Mrs chairs that surround the aforementioned Mangiarotti dining table, or the abstract artworks by artists Maja Ruznic and Marisa Purcell, which inject doses of color into the living and bedroom areas.
Meanwhile, custom built-in elements, such as millwork by J. Pickens in the study, and metalwork by Shelton Studio in the living area help maximize space within the residence by providing additional storage and preventing visual clutter. Refined and functional, Prospect Park West harmoniously blends iconic design pieces from different eras while creating a tranquil atmosphere.
