The Stoke Newington Townhouse is a minimalist residence by the London and Cotswolds-based architecture and interior design studio, Magri Williams. Located in Stoke Newington, London, the four-story townhouse was renovated and extended to create a calm and elevated family home defined by light, materiality, bespoke design details, and a close relationship to nature.
The project centers on opening and refining the existing structure through a carefully considered spatial strategy. A rear extension and reconfigured staircase improve circulation and unlock a more open layout with clearer visual connections to the garden, while two semi-circular rooflights introduce soft, shifting daylight into the extension. The extension itself is arranged around a rectangular planter positioned near the glazing, allowing greenery to become a focal point within the interior and reinforcing the home’s connection to the outdoors.
Meanwhile, material choices throughout the home balance warmth with restraint. Microcement runs continuously across the lower level and extends outward to the exterior, creating a seamless transition between inside and out while lending the home a tactile, understated quality. Upper levels introduce light oak and marble, combining contemporary finishes with subtle references to more traditional detailing. Together, these materials create an atmosphere that feels both refined and deeply livable.
Custom interventions throughout the home further reinforce this sense of cohesion. A built-in microcement bench faces the planter in the extension, creating a quiet moment for pause, while an oversized marble island anchors the kitchen as a central gathering point. Elsewhere, bespoke details including a sculptural marble sink, integrated media unit, and textured headboard introduce both functionality and softness into the interiors.
With the Stoke Newington Townhouse, Magri Williams demonstrates its approach to creating refined residential spaces shaped by light and material sensitivity, resulting in a home that feels serene and carefully composed, while remaining deeply connected to the rhythms of everyday family life.
