TENT_2nd is a minimalist whiskey bar located in Seoul, South Korea, designed by Plainoddity. Much like how whiskey acquires varying hues and flavors while maturing in an oak barrel, the bricks used in the structure differ based on the composition of the soil and their baking process. In a departure from the whiskey-themed aesthetic of the first store, the second store was conceived to mirror the backdrop of the Chungmuro locality. The store aims to reflect the abode of the ‘Great Gamma’ from the Joseon Dynasty. The designers endeavored to capture the grandeur, elegance, and authenticity of the ‘Great Gamma’. Traditional elements such as the graceful curvature of roof tiles, solid cornerstones, traditional window designs, and bookshelf patterns were integrated into the design. A notable architectural feature is the ceiling, composed of three large curves, reminiscent of the shape of traditional roof tiles.

This design element stimulates the experience of sipping whiskey beneath a substantial roof. A traditional window was strategically placed to filter natural light, without hindering the view. The layout also includes a lengthy, two-tiered shelf that extends over 10 meters. The shelf is designed to exhibit whiskey bottles in a staggered arrangement, adding an intriguing visual dynamic to the space. The space features a long ‘ㄱ’-shaped bar and seating arrangements encircled by a low shelf. Other fixtures include a bookshelf-like cabinet and a piece of furniture doubling as a coat hanger, all grounded by the theme of a solid cornerstone. Even the entrance door is designed to pivot around the foundational stone. A private guest area is located atop a set of stairs, offering a lower ceiling height, yet offering a cozy setting. The design allows the four doors of this area to be closed, providing a private space separate from the main hall when desired.
