The Med Terrace is a minimalist home located in London, United Kingdom, designed by ALL&NXTHING in collaboration with Merrett Houmøller Architects. The project has successfully converted the once dark and segmented spaces into a series of interconnected, open areas. The centerpiece of this redesign is a striking double-height, trapezoidal living and kitchen area. The objective was to craft a modern family residence that emphasizes spacious, well-lit environments suitable for both entertainment and relaxation. Drawing inspiration from the architectural traditions of Moroccan and Andalusian houses, which typically feature a luminous central courtyard flanked by smaller, more intimate rooms, the design places a premium on the dimensions and spatial quality of each room over the total square footage.

This approach led to a reimagining of the standard domestic spaces found in townhouses, resulting in a dynamic flow of connected areas accentuated by both internal and external architectural elements. The reconfigured layout blends open and semi-open spaces, marked by double-height ceilings and innovative extensions to the sides and rear of the property. A notable architectural move was the removal of the original first floor, creating an elevated ceiling for the centrally positioned kitchen. This modification, combined with high-level glazing, ensures deep, natural illumination throughout the space.
