The Retreat – Signiel Spa is a minimalist spa located in Seoul, South Korea designed by Teo Yang Studio. Blending traditional Korean design elements with contemporary touches, the design of the space draws inspiration from the word “아름다운” (areumdaun), which translates to beauty in Korean and is derived from the concept of “being the true self”. The result is a tranquil oasis that offers visitors a new perspective on beauty by providing a sanctuary where one can embark on a journey to discover it in a pure and authentic sense.

Entering the space, visitors are welcomed to The Retreat – Signiel Spa with an artful and inviting reception area. Here, natural materials such as wood and stone create a calming and sincere atmosphere, while minimalist decor soothes the sense. To further make guests feel at ease, a beautifully crafted bench, carefully placed in front of the reception desk, offers a pleasant welcome to all who enter the space.

Not far from the reception area is The Retreat store, where visitors can browse a selection of quality beauty products, which are displayed like works of art in a gallery on a back-lit wooden wall shelf. Nearby, a curated series of books and teaware sit atop a display table crafted from wood and stone, a furniture piece that provides a fresh take on traditional Korean aesthetics through its minimal form.

Guests who have booked a treatment are further immersed in the space, as they pass the corridor. Designed to induce feelings of serenity with its impactful, over-scaled pillars, this area leaves a lasting impression on guests as they enter the treatment rooms. Meanwhile, those who want a more detailed consultation at The Retreat – Signiel Spa are welcomed into the Tea Atelier Lounge, where staff offer a variety of delicately crafted teas and well-being expertise.

The final space guests visit in their journey of “아름다운” (areumdaun) is the Resting Lounge, where they are faced with their “true selves” in a serene transitional area between the calm of the spa and the bustling outside cityscape. Here, visitors are encouraged to linger and indulge in the tranquility of the space by relaxing on carefully arranged furniture and gazing at the monochrome artworks that adorn the lounge area.
