The Whale is a minimal apartment located in Paris, France, designed by Clément Lesnoff-Rocard. Situated within the basement of a residential art deco property, the renovation sought to strip away unnecessary elements to expose the original structure of the building. While a series of concrete beams were revealed, the studio wanted to incorporate subtle elements of the building’s art deco past within the context of present day aesthetics. As such, brass and marble were used throughout along with spherical geometric shapes as a way to capture the nostalgia of the building’s past.
