UK Apartment is a minimalist residence located in Blumenau, Brazil, designed by Yuri Borges Design Co. The project begins with a conviction that simplicity is not an absence but a discipline – the careful reduction of a 125-square-meter apartment in the Victor Konder neighborhood to only what is essential, where each material and spatial decision carries deliberate weight. Natural wood anchors this vision, selected not for aesthetic novelty but for its capacity to deepen with time and use, gaining character through daily life rather than resisting it.

The organizational logic of the apartment flows from a central millwork volume clad in floor-to-ceiling wood panels by Selatto Ambientes. This structure functions as an architectural device rather than conventional cabinetry – integrating storage, concealed doors, and a floating bar shelf behind a continuous, seamless grain surface that reveals nothing of its internal complexity. The approach recalls the embedded functionality of Japanese tansu joinery, where storage dissolves into architecture, though here it is executed through a Brazilian material sensibility rooted in warmth rather than austerity. By concentrating programmatic functions within a single uninterrupted surface, the project achieves spatial clarity without sacrificing the practical requirements of domestic life.

The kitchen extends this discipline through material contrast. A monolithic island clad in white-veined national natural stone operates simultaneously as a functional workspace and a sculptural presence within the open floor plan, establishing an informal threshold between cooking and living without resorting to partition walls or level changes. Dark matte upper cabinetry creates tonal weight above the pale stone, grounding the kitchen within the broader palette of black metal accents that runs consistently across all areas of the apartment. The effect is one of restrained precision rather than starkness.
