Pinched is a minimalist design created by England-based designer Sam Greig. The Pinched Desk is a modern reinterpretation of the traditional wooden school desk. The design evolved from analysing redundant furniture forms and takes particular inspiration from the seamless appearance of Japanese puzzle boxes. Channelling this inspiration, the design progressed to give the visual impression that the body of the desk is a solid piece of wood ‘pinched’ within the frame – thus disguising the storage within. The frame construction conceals both the hinge for the lid and the junction where the lid separates from the body of the desk, furthering the appearance of a seamless form. (1)
