BAFFLE is a minimalist lamp designed by Melbourne-based designer Damian Tatangelo of TERMS. The lamp showcases a functional, minimalist design crafted from stainless steel. The lamp features two interlocking steel shrouds that are ingeniously folded; a significant fold in the back panel acts as a large planar reflector. This design effectively clamps the light, directing it downward onto the surface below. While BAFFLE stands out as a highly sculptural piece, its aesthetic appeal is secondary to its primary function, which is to obscure the light source and manipulate light through its geometric form. The choice of mirror steel material is deliberate, chosen for its reflective qualities to ensure a seamless transition from production to functionality. Designed to occupy minimal space, BAFFLE is ideal for use on desks or side tables where it provides indirect lighting. This lamp marks one of the initial projects from TERMS, embodying the studio’s philosophy of realizing distinct concepts through straightforward execution.
