Block is a minimal collection of storage objects designed by New York-based creators Apparatus. The Block Collection is a series of objects comprised of brass forms that plummet into cast crystal volumes. Molten Swedish Barium Crystal is poured into textured graphite molds, giving the cooled blocks the appearance of ice. The crystal acts as a plinth, both supporting and obscuring the heavy brass to create a sense of harmonious displacement. The hollow capsules are chambers for undivulged use, suitable for sacred or forbidden objects. The series examines the relationship between the stable and the unstable, the unbreakable and the fragile, reflecting on what it is to conceal, to enclose, and to support.
