Hydria is a minimalist collection of five vase sculptures by Barcelona-based artist Carla Cascales Alimbau. The limited edition of handmade ceramic pieces blends influences from both archaic Mediterranean cultures and Japanese philosophy, expressed through its organic forms and textural contrasts.

Rooted in an exploration of water, the collection reinterprets the hydria, an ancient Greek vessel used for transporting, storing and pouring water. By stripping it of its usual ornamentation, colours and motifs, the artist reaches its formal essence. The removal of its characteristic handles frees the vases from their functional purpose, transforming them into pure sculptures.

Crafted on the pottery wheel, Cascales gives shape to these five 70 kg pieces. Their imposing size places them at eye and hand level, creating a sense of intimacy with the viewer. As if eroded by water, each sculpture presents a contrasting state: some feature glazed finishes, while others remain completely raw; some have irregular shapes and textures, while others are smooth and refined. Together, the collection reflects on the interplay between that which endures (earth, ceramics) and that whose constant change is inevitable (water, life).
