Otonali is a minimalist izakaya-style restaurant located in Saint-Malo, France, designed by Marsollier Villacorta LLC . Situated in a 1970s hotel building overlooking the industrial harbor, Otonali’s design is heavily influenced by its surroundings. The use of local materials such as granite, galvanized metal, and wood creates a utilitarian yet inviting atmosphere. The restaurant occupies two levels, with a casual vibe intended to welcome local workers. During the renovation, roughly plastered walls were uncovered and incorporated into the design. A long credenza made from locally quarried granite serves as a focal point in the main dining area.

Custom wood tables and matching Muuto chairs, crafted by local woodworkers, add warmth to the space. Soft lighting throughout the dining area is provided by cast glass Viabizzuno pendants. Bespoke elements add charm and a sense of history, such as a custom floor lamp made from an old barn beam and a newly fabricated metal stand. Turned-wood cabinet pulls offer a tactile touch to an armoire. The original enclosure system was replaced with a custom galvanized metal storefront, integrating seamlessly into the stucco facade. Details like exposed screw heads and bent sheet metal subtly reference the industrial setting while adding elegance. At night, Otonali emits a soft glow, inviting diners to enjoy an intimate experience within its thoughtfully designed interior.
