Wood Ribbon is a minimalist apartment located in Paris, France, designed by toledano + architects. The concept was to create a contemporary space while preserving as much of the existing historical elements as possible. The solution was implementing a wood ribbon structure that circulates throughout the molded bearing walls. The ribbon is not only a sculptural installation, but forms delineation between the various programs while also creating smaller niches for storage. The ribbon is purposefully lower than the ceiling in order to maintain visual transparency of the former historical layout. Along with carpenters, the wooden ribbon was lasercut and manufactured with molds. The walls were prefabricated and further assembled at the carpenter’s workshop. The final assembly would be completed on-site.
