Armchair is a minimalist armchair created by Switzerland-based designer Anthony Guex. Fogo Island, an island in the North Atlantic, off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, is a place of hard rock and cold winds. It is not a place for whim and fancy or waste and indulgence. Living here means being resourceful: making things that work and last. This chair is mainly made of straight wooden planks, to streamline production without compromising comfort. The Armchair’s aesthetic refers to the stilt houses on Fogo Island. The goal is to perceive the object as an enveloping, welcoming chair. The large side panels create a shell-like form, and also serve to hide structural elements under the seat.
