001 Stool is a minimalist stool designed by Stockholm-based designer Fredrik Paulsen for Vaarnii, presented at Tableau during 3daysofdesign. The introduction of a new stool to this esteemed family aligns perfectly with these inherent qualities, further enhancing the series’ reputation. Paulsen’s craftsmanship shines through in this addition as it does in his preceding creations like Dining Tables and Chairs. The design of the stool reflects his adeptness in playing with archetypes, offering a fresh take on the traditional three-legged stool. Though the stool is the smallest member of the 001 series, it doesn’t skimp on the substantiality synonymous with its counterparts. As Paulsen elaborates, the robust nature of the timber was essential to its design, ensuring both stability and practicality. Importantly, Paulsen didn’t allow the stool’s structural demands to compromise its intended functionality. With the thoughtful placement of its three legs, he ensured stability, yet aimed to keep the piece light and compact. This was done with the explicit intention of crafting a stool to be used as a seat and not leaving it open to interpretation as an ambiguous piece of furniture.
