The Act II Chair is a minimalist chair by London and Paris-based designer Sasa Barnes, created in collaboration with Charlotte Taylor for Studio Charlotte Taylor. Defined by clean geometry and quiet poise, the chair distills form and function into a sculptural piece that feels both approachable and lived-in.
Part of the ongoing Act Collection, the Act II Chair continues the studio’s exploration of how people interact with objects in their homes, and how these relationships evolve between use and display over time. The collection considers design as something that is both experienced and admired, blurring the boundaries between object and environment.
Crafted from stained Douglas fir, the chair is composed of square components that form a balanced silhouette. A rectangular slit cut into the center of the backrest introduces negative space, allowing light to pass through and softening the solidity of the piece. The deep black stain accentuates the wood’s natural grain, giving the chair quiet depth and tactility.
With its precise proportions and simplicity, the Act II Chair embodies the ethos of the Act Collection: that furniture can exist as both a functional object and a sculptural form, inviting reflection on the intimacy of everyday living.
