Alabaster Side Table is a minimalist side table designed by Brooklyn-based designer MOCK Studio. Constructed entirely from untreated alabaster, a new design piece emerges that demonstrates the pure connection between form and function. In a thoughtful approach to material use, the design engages both vertical and horizontal elements, representing a synergy between solid cylindrical shapes and meticulously carved pentagons. Derived from live edge slabs, the design reveals the distinct nature of alabaster. The piece’s pentagonal components are not the result of artistic whim but rather a carefully calculated approach. The natural contours of the raw slab informed the creation of these pentagons, ensuring minimal material waste. But what elevates this design from merely structural to experiential is the unique quality of alabaster itself. Known for its translucent properties, the stone’s interaction with light becomes a spectacle. As the day progresses and lighting conditions fluctuate, the piece undergoes a visual metamorphosis, offering viewers an ever-changing aesthetic experience.
