ALUCUTS BATCH 1 is a minimalist series of aluminum furniture created by Copenhagen-based designer Thomas Gayet. The collection exemplifies Gayet’s minimalist design philosophy through its use of 12mm squared cuts of aluminum plates. These elements are methodically assembled using bolted connections to form the final furniture piece. The process emphasizes simplicity, allowing the shape of the furniture to emerge naturally through empirical arrangement of the aluminum segments. The aesthetic of the series is characterized by a raw, industrial finish. The edges of the cuts, marked by the manufacturing blade, provide a stark contrast to the brushed surfaces of the aluminum. This contrast is accentuated by the use of countersunk Allen bolts, which not only serve a functional purpose but also highlight the assembly points, underscoring the minimalist construction approach.
