Composition Series is a minimal series of objects created by Madrid-based designers Studio La Cube. ‘Compositions’ was conceived following the idea of creating powerful aesthetical contrasts with the color and the textures of the materials as well as doing a balanced general figure. Using the roughness of the black wood with the elegance of the brass, copper and aluminum sheets, the designers created four different compositions in where to experiment with the possibilities of the geometry and with its small details, such as the fitting of the different pieces and the role of the screws on the aesthetics’ object. Playing with the volumes of the wood and the planes of the metal sheet we have tried to join architectural and sculpture concepts to the design procedure. The creation process of this project is based on the philosophy of experimentation as methodology for design, working with the inherent characters of each material, joining different types of them, and looking for the smoothness through the diversity.
