Diskoi is a minimal low table designed by Brooklyn-based studio Objects of Common Interest for NILUFAR presented at Milan Design Week 2023. Iridescence appears to exist only when we observe it and is different for each person depending on their location, the lighting around them, their gaze, the time of day, and even their mood. The earliest references to iridescence date back to ancient Greece, where the word “Poikilos” was used to describe the mottled fur of a running leopard or the iridescent skin of a snake. The exhibition features objects created by Eleni Petaloti and Leonidas Trampoukis, who are based in New York and Athens. The duo’s fascination with iridescence began when they met Ovidiu Colea, a Romanian man who ran a workshop dedicated to producing and experimenting with resin. Colea had an unparalleled passion for resin and had developed innovative techniques and secret recipes for working with the material. The side table is produced in cast acrylic in Greece, with custom sizes and colors made to order.
