Joia is a minimalist furniture collection by the Milan-based design practice, StudioDanielK. As the studio’s sophomore collection, Joia takes its name from the Portuguese word for “jewel” and is a continuation of StudioDanielK’s keen ability to apply jewelry techniques to furniture design.

Each of the collection’s five pieces — a chair, desk, coffee table, low bookshelf, and bar — are set with rich, vibrant, semi-precious stones, like pendants on a necklace. Similar to how jewelry is deeply imbued with meaning, the five furniture designs each evoke the unique memories and sentiments that inspired this collection. In creating Joia, Daniel Kolodziejczak, StudioDanielK’s co-founder and designer, most notably drew inspiration from New York City and the sense of enamorment he felt while witnessing sunsets in the metropolis.

These inspirations manifested themselves in the pieces presented in Joia: honey calcite and red jasper stones in saturated shades of red oranges and yellows, each set against metal, bronze backdrops that reference the city’s reflective buildings.

As a whole, Joia furthers StudioDanielK’s exploration of the intersection of tradition and innovation while seamlessly integrating jewelry-like connections between metal and stone.
