Lightwood is a minimal desk created by Jasper Morrison for MARUNI, presented at this year’s 61st edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano. Helmed by Salone President Maria Porro, this year’s fair featured a brand new layout with an immersive feel across all installations, including conferences, vertical workshops, thematic exhibitions, and bookshops, in addition to the site-specific installations. Morrison initially designed the desk in 2022 for the Shiroiya Hotel in Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. However, given the global shift towards remote work and the growing significance of desks in home interiors due to the coronavirus pandemic, Morrison adapted the original design for broader use within the Lightwood Collection. The modified desk now includes a drawer and a slightly altered panel design, reflecting the practical needs of daily life in the post-pandemic world. According to MARUNI, wooden desks have become an essential piece of furniture, and Morrison’s latest creation, available in maple, oak, or ash, embodies the understated beauty and adaptability that define the Lightwood Collection.
