Nila Lounge Chair is part of a minimalist lounge collection created by Croatia-based studio Regular Company and Neisako Studio. The inherent tension between rigid timber frameworks and yielding upholstered volumes has challenged furniture makers since the early modernist period. This collection resolves that friction by treating comfort as a precisely engineered architectural system rather than a superficial applied layer. The project represents a synthesis of complementary disciplines, merging a fifteen-year mastery of solid wood manipulation with highly specialized soft-structure engineering.

The traditional typology of the upholstered armchair is reinterpreted through a sturdy wooden frame and almond-shaped armrests that establish an archetypal presence. Soft transitions and visual lightness impart a distinctly contemporary character to the seating. The partnership between the designers and the manufacturer is built on immense trust in the production process and the time required to resolve intricate physical details properly. This long-term relationship facilitates a profound understanding of how solid wood behaves under various stresses, allowing the designers to craft fluid wooden frames with seamless joinery. The chaise lounge serves as the focal point of the series, defined by a pronounced orthogonal structure that supports a surprisingly organic form. Solid wood possesses very specific limits and possibilities, and the overarching design language balances disciplined geometry with sculptural softness to allow the natural character of the timber to remain central.

Upholstered bodies within the collection function as integral structural components that work in tandem with the solid wood frame rather than actively concealing it. Foam densities, complex layering sequences, and internal support mechanisms are rigorously calibrated by the design team to achieve ergonomic comfort without inflating the visual proportions. The softer elements were introduced into the composition only after the underlying structural logic was completely resolved. This methodology echoes the functionalist ethos of mid-century Scandinavian design, yet it utilizes contemporary manufacturing precision paired with traditional hand-finishing techniques to achieve a more complex dialogue between the hard and soft materials.

A carefully considered leather base supports the soft upholstery, incorporating woven sections that provide targeted structural reinforcement where the frame demands it most. This woven leather foundation distributes the physical load while simultaneously making the mechanics of the construction highly visible and poetically expressive. Gently curved metal details finalize the overall composition, adding visual punctuation while reinforcing the mechanical strength of the load-bearing joints. Wood, leather, metal, and textile operate collectively as a single unified system, resulting in a restrained aesthetic that quietly reveals deep layers of technical complexity upon closer inspection.
