Apartment Messine is a minimalist residence by the Paris-based interior architecture and design studio, Atelier Opale. Located in Paris’ 8th arrondissement, the 23-square-meter (248-square-foot) chambre de bonne is reimagined as a hotel suite-suite inspired space that maximizes both light and space within a limited footprint.

In designing the space, founders Alexandra Bouthier and Alice Lefebvre preserved the original high ceilings and introduced a mezzanine level, enabling the space to feel open while offering a flexible zone for storage or an additional sleeping area. The layout is also defined through subtle shifts in level, with cream-painted platforms organizing different functions while maintaining a continuous, unobstructed flow. Soft, neutral shades of beige and cream further enhance the natural light, amplifying the brightness of the top-floor apartment.

Custom-made wooden fixtures are integrated throughout, providing both storage and a tactile counterpoint to the lighter surfaces, while the bathroom, details such as glass blocks allow light to filter through while preserving privacy, and earthy Bejmat tiles add an earthy, textural quality. Together, these elements create a balanced interior that feels both intimate and luxurious.
