The OBJ-06 Side Table is a minimalist table by the Mexico City-based designer Manu Bañó. Part of a larger collection that includes a chair, coffee table, and lighting, the series explores copper’s transformation through fire and human manipulation. With this piece, a flat sheet of copper is reshaped into a sculptural, three-dimensional object that is both functional and evocative of the material’s journey.

Concentric hammering is used to create the table’s support surface and base, while also imbuing it with a rich, tactile quality, with each strike leaving the mark of the maker. The top and base mirror each other in form, and are connected by hammered curves that lend visual rhythm to the table.

Crafted in Santa Clara del Cobre, a small town in Michoacán, Mexico, with a centuries-old goldsmithing tradition, the tables were produced in collaboration with local artisans known for their expertise in small-scale copper objects.

Pushing copper beyond its typical constraints, the OBJ-06 Side Table blurs the lines between furniture and sculpture, embodying Bañó’s ongoing inquiry into materiality and process.
