Apartment S is a minimal apartment located in Marseille, France, designed by Enzo Rosada. At the core of this renovation is the integration of modern elements into the vast, historically significant spaces within the warehouse. The structure’s expansive corridors, which once witnessed the transport of goods by beasts of burden, now serve as grandiose connectors within the living quarters, bearing witness to a rich tapestry of history intertwined with modern comfort. The revamped space is distinctly partitioned into two primary areas: a welcoming day zone characterized by its open-plan and a secluded and tranquil sleeping quarter. The living area enjoys abundant natural light, thanks to the preservation of two imposing original windows.

The living space embraces a loft-inspired concept, fostered by a uniform concrete slab foundation that not only adds a touch of modernity but also binds the area cohesively. An artful use of the same material creates a central island that serves as a focal point within this expansive setting. An elevation in the rear part of the flat hosts the bedroom, offering residents a mesmerizing panoramic view of the Old Port and its ever-changing maritime tableau. The design emphasizes an effortless transition between the bright, airy living area and the private sleeping space, facilitated by the strategic use of solid oak furniture pieces and contrasting room hues.

The oak furnishings house vital amenities such as heating and air conditioning systems, in addition to embedding a functional kitchen, a library, a laundry room, and a dressing area, offering a seamless blend of style and functionality. The sleeping quarters promise an intimate retreat for the inhabitants. Hidden within is a uniquely designed shower room, featuring waxed concrete surfaces that underline the organic flow of the space’s architectural elements. The room offers a serene vantage point where one can admire the dwelling’s rustic wooden beams, a gentle nod to the building’s historical roots.
