Appartement UHN is a minimalist apartment located in Beijing, China, designed by BW Timeless. The studio transformed the 200 square meter apartment to prioritize openness and light, offering sweeping views of the city. This transformation was achieved by redesigning the apartment’s internal layout, replacing traditional walls with sliding and pivoting doors. These flexible partitions allow spaces to be either distinct and private or unified and open, enabling residents to either isolate or connect with the urban panorama.

This architectural solution was developed in response to the client’s desire for a layout that maximizes communal living areas while minimizing conventional hallway spaces. The design integrates versatile living concepts into the home, eschewing nonstructural barriers. This approach involved removing existing partitions and redistributing spaces to accommodate the building’s structural elements like columns and beams. Minimalist carpentry with clean lines supports the core of this design overhaul. Natural light is maximized through strategically placed bay windows on the north and south exterior walls, enhancing the interior’s connection with the cityscape.
