Before any micro-cement went on the walls of the Arc·Haven Residence in Yangzhou, China, carpenters built timber substrates for every arched doorway, curved ceiling, and rounded beam and column. Plasterers then applied and sanded coat after coat until the apartment’s original right angles were gone. Wuta Space Design, led by Wang Fei, treated that curved shell as the main decorative element of the home and kept the furnishings few enough for the shell to stay legible.

The same warm beige-gray micro-cement runs continuously across walls and floors, so no skirting or junction interrupts a curve where it meets the ground. Linear air-conditioning vents are recessed along the contours of the curved ceilings, leaving the ceiling planes unbroken. In a few places, vertical gypsum ribbing gives the otherwise smooth plaster a texture that catches side light.

In the living room, a curved black shearling sofa forms an enclosed seating area and supplies the darkest mass in a pale interior. A helical walnut bookshelf, held together with mechanical mortise-and-tenon joints, stands free in front of the window. There is no central ceiling fixture. Tiered recessed lighting handles the evenings, and full-height sheer blinds diffuse daylight across the public rooms so that it moves along the curves without casting hard edges.

Pink-veined marble ties the dining area to the rest of the plan. A solid marble table extends toward the adjacent dry area, and off-white teddy-velvet chairs pair firm outlines with soft upholstery beneath a four-pointed star pendant. The U-shaped kitchen beside it uses pale matte handle-less cabinetry with integrated appliances and takes its light from long louvered windows.

Dark solid-wood boards in the hallway mark the shift from living to sleeping zones, running through two successive arched openings. Ebony burl veneer is inlaid into the micro-cement walls of the primary bedroom, small pendants stand in for overhead lighting, and a recessed bay window provides a place to sit. The en-suite, entered through another arch, is clad in light travertine, with a marble countertop that repeats the stone of the dining room, wall-mounted faucets, and a slim glass partition.
