EJ Residence is a minimal home located in Singapore, designed by co-founders Alex Liu and Jay Liu, Design Director and Art Director respectively of Right Angle Studio. This duplex flat, which is tucked away on a quiet street on the outskirts of the city, was designed to achieve a perpetual essentialism in harmony with its distinctive architectural features. The house has been designed with a basic aesthetic to blend in with its lush surroundings, removing any clutter or unnecessary distractions. An open floor layout makes the distinction between indoors and outdoors less clear, giving visitors and homeowners a seamless experience. Primarily rendered in ash wood, marble, and lime-washed textures, the interior space is complemented with a mix of understated furnishings, enabling a continuous dialogue between the living, dining, and patio areas.

A restored B&B Italia Charles sofa from the client’s previous collection, which has been reupholstered in outdoor fabric as a reaffirmation of its perpetuity, a floating cloud lamp from New York that was purchased, and a wide range of artworks chosen from the artists Lim Tze Peng, Takashi Murakami, and Nai Swee Leng are just a few standout pieces. An discreet doorway that overlooks the double-volume area is tastefully anchored to conceal access to the public restroom and back-of-house, adding depth to the rectilinear profile and embodying the studio’s aesthetics. The master, study, and child rooms’ individual quarters are located above the apartment.
