Flat in Eixample is a minimal apartment located in Barcelona, Spain, designed by Jaime Prous Architects. The idea behind this apartment was to break away from preconceptions and design an austere, global home for a modern dandy. The layout of the corridors divides the area into programmatic sections that cross diagonally in the direction of the west-facing vistas of the block garden. A single support is formed of a stainless steel pillar and a striated marble column, which are both present adjacent to the light when it first enters, in order to ensure that the light spreads over the entire room. The proposal challenges municipal laws and calls into question how the Eixample housing paradigm has always operated. In order to colonize the area, in this example the gallery, new formulas are sought after. It is occupied by the kitchen, a steel monolith with a futuristic appearance that also serves as the hub for all of the home’s technological operations. A motorized cloth blind filters the sunlight just before dusk, giving the space an orange hue. The mood of nostalgia transports us to an unrealized future.
