Granhand is a minimal space located in Seoul, South Korea, designed by STUDIO MOTIF. Under the slogan “everyday fragrances,” Granhand is a fragrance company that seeks comfort in daily living and researches relevant fragrances and goods. Some claim that a perfumer creates a scent much like a musician develops a note. Making decisions on what materials to use and how to arrange them is similar to designing a space. Wood was mentioned in Granhand’s opening statement about material. Many words connected to wood are employed in the language of scent. The studio looked into the wood’s varied textures and methods of expression for the area where it was intended to be employed.
By using the expressiveness technique, wood can be either very familiar or very unfamiliar. The designers used sand as the background for the area that was decorated with an ivory-toned painting. They also set four substantial display tables constructed of a cherry and maple wood blend. Compared to oak and ash, the pattern of cherry and maple wood conveys a sense of stability and warmth. Soft cherry and maple wood covered the display table, keeping the metallic undertone of the brass line in check. On the rear wall of the room, they created a line-patterned shelf and utilized a rough-grained oak tree design to highlight the line.
