Private Residence in Prosperidad is a minimal home located in Madrid, Spain, designed by PRÁCTICA. The apartment is cleverly divided into two sections. The public area encompasses the living room, a combined kitchen and dining space, and an office. The private section houses three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. To maximize space, the design omits hallways. Instead, public spaces are arranged in a linear sequence, an approach known as enfilade. This arrangement allows each room to open directly into the next, creating a sense of depth and continuity. Natural light is amplified through strategic placement of expanded openings between rooms, further enhanced by large sliding doors with mirrored surfaces.

These mirrors cleverly extend the perceived space and, when closed in pairs, create an illusion of an infinite corridor. Connectivity between rooms is achieved through deep thresholds, which serve both as transitional spaces and distinct visual elements. These thresholds are marked by contrasting materials and colors, creating a tactile and visual distinction from the main living spaces. The primary areas are finished in a white palette, including walls, ceilings, marble floors, and built-in cabinetry. In contrast, thresholds feature naturally finished oakwood paneling, adding warmth and texture. This material continuity extends to the sliding door guides, allowing them to blend seamlessly when open. The residence also introduces the concept of ‘expanded inhabitable walls.’

These 70 cm thick partitions are not merely structural but functional, housing cabinets, kitchen appliances, and closets. They provide essential storage while enhancing room insulation and climate control. The heart of the public space is a kitchen island, clad in brushed stainless steel. This material choice subtly reflects its surroundings, reinforcing the depth of the space. The two bathrooms and laundry area showcase a light-grey microcement finish, enveloping floors, walls, ceilings, and fixtures in a cohesive, minimalistic aesthetic. Mirror-finished doors with hidden LED lighting add a final touch of sophistication to these spaces.
