STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN New York Gallery is a minimalist space located in New York, New York, led by founder and creative director Nacho Polo, and director Robert Onsuka. This new global flagship for STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN, which opened on February 15, 2024, offers an engaging platform for both established and emerging talents in design and art. The gallery, meticulously designed by Polo and Onuska, provides an immersive sensory experience that thoughtfully integrates light, sight, sound, and touch, aiming to forge a deep connection between the viewer, the art, and the emotions evoked. STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN, established in Miami in 2018, is recognized for its representation of contemporary, iconic, and collectible design pieces, all curated by Polo and Onuska. The gallery’s selection spans timeless, luxurious, and minimalist designs, although it resists simple classification.

It has become a destination for clients around the globe seeking exclusive, made-to-order statement pieces. The gallery is housed in a Neo-Renaissance building designed in 1901 by Henry J. Hardenbergh, known for his contributions to New York City’s architectural landscape, including The Dakota and The Plaza Hotel. The building’s location at Church and Leonard Streets allows for an abundance of natural light through its large windows and offers views of Anish Kapoor’s public sculpture, enhancing the space’s connection to contemporary design and culture. The building’s intricate façade and its proximity to Herzog & de Meuron’s 56 Leonard Street add to its cultural significance. Inside, the space is defined by double-height ceilings and large windows that create a grand scale ideal for showcasing the works of STUDIOTWENTYSEVEN’s designers and artists.

The interiors, softened by curved walls, a rotunda, and a hand-carved chestnut door, are illuminated by custom lighting designed in collaboration with L’Observatoire, enhancing the atmospheric mood and accentuating the art and architecture. The gallery’s design includes unique features such as a 7-foot bronze and glass chandelier, a dining table made from reclaimed French oak, and a secret library, creating moments of intimacy and surprise within the monumental scale. Works from Polo and Onuska’s personal art collection are integrated throughout, offering insights into the relationship between art and design. The experience is complemented by a curated playlist, contributing to the gallery’s immersive atmosphere.
